Inclusion & Culture

Our Mission

The Culture & Community Committee of the GBTA Tennessee Chapter in alignment with GBTA is dedicated to promoting global awareness of the diverse issues faced by travelers and colleagues, whether in the workplace or while traveling for meetings and other business needs. We believe that embracing Culture and Community is not just a value, but a strategic imperative that drives innovation, enhances collaboration, and strengthens organizational success.

Our committee provides resources, education, and support to empower the travel industry to build a more inclusive and culturally aware environment for both employees and travelers. By addressing cultural issues, we work to create a travel ecosystem that ensures every individual feels respected, valued, and supported - whether they’re in the office or on the road.

Why Culture & Community Matter

In today’s globalized world, Culture & Community are more than just buzzwords- they’re essential to fostering a productive and positive work environment. Here's why this focus is crucial:

  • Culture Promotes Innovation: Diverse cultures bring diverse perspectives, which can lead to new ideas, creative solutions, and better decision-making. When people feel accepted and valued, they contribute more actively and effectively.
  • Enhancing Travel Experiences: Business travelers face a range of cultural differences, both in the workplace and during their travels. A deep understanding of inclusion and culture can help travelers navigate diverse environments with respect and awareness, enhancing their experience and strengthening relationships across cultures.
  • Attracting and Retaining Talent: A commitment to culture helps organizations attract top talent from diverse backgrounds. Employees are more likely to stay with companies that value their identity and create an inclusive environment.
  • Building Trust and Community: An inclusive culture promotes mutual respect and trust among colleagues and clients. This trust is essential for collaboration, whether in the office or while managing travel needs and logistics.

Where Do Members Start?

Whether you're a new member or a seasoned professional, there are several ways you can start engaging with the Culture & Community Committee:

  1. Get Involved: Join committee meetings and participate in discussions. This is a great way to learn from others, share experiences, and contribute to initiatives focused on improving diversity, equity, and inclusion within the travel industry.
  2. Engage in Educational Opportunities: Attend webinars, workshops, and training sessions offered by the chapter or GBTA .     These resources are designed to help you better understand DEI principles, explore cultural sensitivities, and apply inclusive practices in your daily work.
  3. Access Resources: As a member, you’ll have access to a library of DEI tools, guides, articles, and case studies tailored to the travel industry. These resources are aimed at helping you navigate challenges and implement change in your own organization.
  4. Collaborate with Fellow Members: The best way to learn and grow is through collaboration. Connect with peers who share your passion for inclusion and culture and work together to champion culture initiatives in the industry.
  5. Promote Culture in Your Organization: Share the knowledge you gain with your colleagues and leadership. Advocate for policies, practices, and programs that promote culture and community within your company’s travel programs and day-to-day operations.
